Deputy Minister in the Presidency Kenny Morolong has urged government leaders to improve communication with citizens in order to rebuild public trust and enhance service delivery. Speaking to the Free State Executive Council, he presented the new Government Communication Policy, which is intended to guide how government departments engage with communities across all three spheres of government. He stressed that successful implementation depends on transparency, accountability, and active public participation.
Morolong also highlighted the crucial role of community media, particularly community radio, in strengthening democracy and ensuring access to information. He noted that in the Free State only 12 of 24 community radio stations are operational, with just four meeting compliance standards. Citing GCIS research, he warned that many South Africans remain concerned about the country’s direction and called for stronger two-way communication between government and the public.
