GAUTENG – The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has welcomed the suspension of Gauteng Traffic Police Chief Inspector Samuel Mashaba pending a formal disciplinary process. The suspension follows testimony given before the Madlanga Commission, where admissions were reportedly made regarding conduct that could amount to serious misconduct. The committee said the move reflects government’s commitment to accountability, ethical leadership and the rule of law.
The committee stressed that the suspension is a precautionary measure and does not imply guilt, noting that due process must be followed. However, it maintained that public officials must be held to the highest standards of integrity and that any wrongdoing should be thoroughly investigated. The committee also called for a fair and speedy disciplinary process, saying accountability is essential to restoring public trust in law enforcement and strengthening governance in Gauteng.
