The Gauteng Department of Health has dismissed claims made by Mr Jack Bloom regarding cardiac surgery at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH), affirming that the hospital continues to serve as a major cardiothoracic referral centre for patients across its region.
The department emphasised that CMJAH provides specialised cardiac services and maintains internationally recognised standards for evaluating clinical outcomes.
Officials noted that staffing limitations have led to adjusted surgical volumes, prioritising patient safety, and stressed there is no evidence of a “cover‑up” or systemic failure in cardiac services. The department aims to reassure the public that cardiac care at CMJAH remains reliable and closely monitored.
