STEVE BIKO- The Gauteng Department of Health has responded to allegations made by a professional nurse at Steve Biko Academic Hospital who claimed in a viral video that she was being bullied by hospital management. The Department says the nurse was suspended in December 2025 after allegedly failing to comply with hospital policies related to leave management and medical assessments.
According to the Department, the employee had been absent since October 2025 and failed to submit the required leave and incapacity documents, leading to the freezing of her salary. Officials say several attempts were made to resolve the matter through union meetings and internal processes. The Department has encouraged the nurse to follow official grievance procedures, submit the necessary Occupational Health documents, and avoid addressing the matter on social media so she can be reintegrated into the hospital.
