The Gauteng District Health Services is calling for a tighter lockdown in the province.
This as infections surge alarmingly in Gauteng.
Gauteng has seen COVID-19 infections increase by over a hundred percent in a week.
The province accounted for nearly 63-percent of new cases in the most recent daily reports.
“Looking at the numbers we are having now in Gauteng and how rapidly the numbers are increasing, a higher lockdown will actually benefit the province so that we limit the mobility,” said Gauteng District Health Services chief director, Meisie Lerutla.
“I think the other thing is if we could at the national level, we know that this is not the responsibility of Gauteng, that is a national decision, however, given the numbers increasing the lockdown regulations will assist and maybe even limiting the availability of alcohol, not ban it but maybe if the sales could be a little restricted.”
