The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has condemned the rising gun violence in Gauteng, following the killing of Emfuleni Municipality employee Ms Martha Mani in Vanderbijlpark. The Committee also noted another recent fatal shooting in Ormonde and said such incidents reflect a dangerous increase in violent crime. The case is being investigated by the South African Police Service Political Killings Task Team.
The Committee has renewed its call for a Gun-Free Gauteng, warning that the widespread availability of illegal firearms is putting lives at risk. It is urging stronger policing, intelligence-driven operations and community cooperation to curb gun-related crime.
