Some filling stations in Gauteng, particularly in the east of Pretoria, remain without fuel as motorists are turned away. Panic-buying and hoarding ahead of this week’s fuel price hike have caused widespread shortages.

Fuel prices have risen sharply, with petrol up by over R3 per litre and diesel increasing by more than R7 per litre from the start of the month. Motorists expressed frustration at having to drive between stations, calling the situation inconvenient and disruptive.
