VEERNIGING- Residents in parts of Vereeniging, including Victoria and surrounding areas, experienced prolonged electricity disruptions as the Emfuleni Local Municipality intensified efforts to curb illegal electricity connections. The municipality launched a smart meter installation programme in George Street, with work scheduled to continue in Senator Marks Avenue, Stanley Avenue and Smuts Avenue. Officials indicated that electricity supply would be stabilised and fully restored once the project was completed on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

Despite these assurances, residents in Victoria reported that power went off again late on Tuesday due to low-voltage challenges. The outage left households without electricity for more than two days before supply was eventually restored on Thursday evening at approximately 19:30. Residents have expressed frustration over the recurring disruptions and the impact they have had on daily life.
