VAAL- Emfuleni Local Municipality says it is steadily improving its sewer infrastructure through a Section 63 intervention launched by the Minister of Water and Sanitation in July 2021. Working with Rand Water as the implementing agent, the municipality is upgrading major wastewater treatment plants, including Leeukuil, Sebokeng, and Rietspruit, while also restoring and maintaining key pump stations that have been fully operational since 2024.
The municipality reports that several pump stations are now functional and recent testing cycles show 100% water quality compliance. It says the programme is aimed at modernising the sewer reticulation system and preventing future environmental damage. Residents have also been urged to avoid disposing of items like wet wipes and fats into the system, as these contribute to blockages and service disruptions.
