JOHANNESBURG- Domestic workers in South Africa are expected to be the most affected by the recent hikes in electricity and fuel prices. Amy Tekkie, co-founder of the Izwi Domestic Workers Alliance, highlighted that a significant portion of their earnings is already spent on essentials such as electricity and transport, leaving little room for additional expenses.

Tekkie warned that many domestic workers may have to make difficult choices, such as cutting back on food to afford transport or deciding between paying for school fees and electricity. The rising costs are putting severe pressure on households that already operate on tight budgets.
