Deputy President Paul Mashatile says South Africa’s water crisis is largely due to poor infrastructure maintenance and years of underinvestment.
He cited ageing systems, leaks, and failing treatment plants as key contributors to ongoing shortages, urging municipalities to improve maintenance and upgrades.
Mashatile also called for stronger oversight, better planning, and increased funding, warning that water insecurity could worsen without urgent action.
