Motorists will get relief at the pumps from midnight on Wednesday, 1 July, as fuel prices are set to drop significantly. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources announced that 93-octane petrol will decrease by R2.01 per litre, while 95-octane petrol will drop by R1.96 per litre.
Diesel prices are also expected to fall by between R3.14 and R3.59 per litre. The department attributes the decrease to lower international crude oil prices and a relatively stable rand, with Brent crude now trading below $100 per barrel and returning to pre-war levels.
