PARIS- France has recorded over 40 kidnappings linked to cryptocurrency since January, with criminals targeting investors and their families to demand ransom in digital assets. Many of these attacks are organised by groups operating from abroad, using different methods to identify and target victims.
Authorities say these crimes have increased rapidly, rising from a small number in 2024 to around 30 cases in 2025, and even more this year. Police warn that organised crime is increasingly focusing on cryptocurrency holders as the value and use of digital money grows.
