GQEBERHA – The Eastern Cape High Court has dismissed Premier Oscar Mabuyane’s urgent application to stop EFF leader Julius Malema from making statements about his academic qualifications. Mabuyane had asked the court to declare Malema’s claims that he fraudulently obtained a master’s degree from the University of Fort Hare as unlawful and defamatory.
Malema made the allegations while addressing supporters outside the KuGompo Magistrate’s Court earlier this year. Mabuyane sought a retraction, apology, and an order preventing Malema from repeating the claims. The EFF welcomed the ruling, saying it vindicates Malema and his efforts to expose alleged wrongdoing at the University of Fort Hare, while Mabuyane’s legal team studies the judgment.
