JOHANNESBURG- The Constitutional Court of South Africa has ruled that Parliament’s handling of the Phala Phala matter was influenced by a material error of law and is therefore unconstitutional. The court ruled in favour of the Economic Freedom Fighters and the African Transformation Movement, and ordered that the independent panel’s report be referred to an impeachment committee for further action.

In response, President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged the judgment, stating that the Presidency respects the Constitutional Court’s decision and remains committed to upholding the Constitution, judicial independence, and the rule of law. The Presidency also noted that Ramaphosa has consistently cooperated with all inquiries related to the matter.
