The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has heard audio and video evidence linking suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi to businessman Mike van Wyk, who allegedly requested permission to install blue lights on his private vehicle. The recordings suggest possible misuse of municipal resources and a close relationship between the two.
The commission also heard that Van Wyk influenced the drafting of Memorandums of Understanding involving companies linked to him, which are central to corruption allegations at the EMPD. Mkhwanazi is expected to return to the inquiry on a date yet to be announced.
