PRETORIA WEST- The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has urged urgent intervention from Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni following an oversight visit to Pretoria West Police Station. The Committee found serious infrastructure problems, including the station operating from three separate buildings, which disrupts coordination, weakens command and control, and reduces overall policing efficiency in a crime-affected area.
The Committee also raised concern over outdated ICT systems, slow connectivity, and delays in case processing, all of which are hampering service delivery. In addition, escalating crimes such as hijackings and kidnappings, illegal scrapyards, and even a hijacked building next to the station have heightened alarm. The Committee has called on Tommy Mthombeni and the Gauteng Provincial Legislature to take immediate action to restore operational capacity, improve infrastructure, and rebuild public confidence in policing services.
