JOHANNESBURG – Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has confirmed he will leave the South African national team after a successful five-year spell in charge. The Belgian made the announcement in an interview with a Belgian publication, bringing an end to the longest managerial tenure in Bafana Bafana history.

Broos guided South Africa to back-to-back AFCON tournaments, winning a bronze medal in 2023, and led the team to the FIFA World Cup knockout stages for the first time. SAFA is now expected to intensify its search for a new coach, with Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie previously backing Pitso Mosimane as his preferred successor.
