CAPE TOWN- African National Congress (ANC) officials are holding a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza to deliberate on the implications of the Phala Phala matter. The meeting is also attended by ANC Chief Whip Mdumiseni Ntuli and Advocate Thembeka Ngcukaitobi, who previously represented President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Constitutional Court during proceedings linked to the Section 89 Phala Phala Report. Ngcukaitobi is expected to brief the party on possible legal options following the court’s ruling.
Last week, the Constitutional Court ordered Parliament to establish an impeachment committee to investigate possible wrongdoing by the president, triggering renewed political pressure. While Ramaphosa has indicated he will respect the judgment and continues consulting his legal team, critics are calling for his resignation. Opposition parties are also preparing to table a motion of no confidence, while the ANC’s headquarters at Luthuli House has not yet formally communicated the party’s position.
