Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says damage assessments are continuing across all districts following the recent storms that caused widespread destruction in the province. Mop-up and recovery operations are ongoing in several affected communities, while emergency teams work to restore water and electricity supplies. Authorities are also repairing damaged roads that left many residents stranded and isolated. The official death toll has risen to eleven, with thousands of people displaced and in need of assistance.
Meanwhile, aid organisation Gift of the Givers says some communities in the Langeberg Municipality remain cut off and have not yet received assistance due to severely damaged and inaccessible roads. Project Manager Ali Sablay warned that the province could face a major humanitarian crisis in the coming weeks as the full extent of the destruction becomes clear. He added that many affected areas are also battling serious water shortages, making relief efforts even more difficult.
