BOTHAVILLE- South African farmers are facing rising financial pressure due to the ongoing Middle East conflict, climate change challenges, and the national Foot-and-Mouth Disease disaster. Speaking at the NAMPO Harvest Day in Bothaville, Standard Bank AgriBusiness head Brendan Jacobs said tensions involving the US and Iran have pushed up fuel and fertilizer costs, affecting local agriculture.

Jacobs urged farmers to work closely with banks to manage cash flow during the difficult period, saying each farming business requires tailored support. Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen said government’s vaccination programme against Foot-and-Mouth Disease is making progress as authorities continue efforts to control the outbreak.
