TSHWANE- President Cyril Ramaphosa says he will challenge Parliament’s Independent Panel report on the Phala Phala matter following last week’s Constitutional Court judgment. Addressing the nation on Monday, Ramaphosa announced that he would take the report on review, arguing that its findings were flawed in law and fact. He maintained that he had not committed any crime, stolen public money, or violated his oath of office.

The Constitutional Court ruled that Parliament’s impeachment rules were unconstitutional after a challenge by the Economic Freedom Fighters and the African Transformation Movement. The parties argued that Parliament acted irrationally in 2022 when it failed to establish a committee to investigate allegations linked to foreign currency stolen from Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in 2020. Despite growing calls for his resignation, Ramaphosa said stepping down would undermine constitutional processes and efforts to rebuild institutions and fight corruption.
