There’s been an increase in positive coronavirus cases in schools in the Northern Cape.

That’s according to the province’s Education MEC Zolile Monakali.

He says while COVID-19 safety measures are being followed at school, at home it’s a different story.

The province has recorded 264 positive COVID-19 cases in the past week alone.

This has led to the disruptive opening and then closing of schools.

Since 1 May 2021, 79 schools have been closed to allow for disinfection and the immediate isolation of appropriately identified staff and learners.
