The Gauteng Department of Health is expanding eye care services to help reduce preventable blindness. The initiative forms part of Eye Care Awareness Month, running from 23 September to 18 October.
Between April and August, more than 17,000 patients received spectacles, while public hospitals performed over 4,500 cataract surgeries. The department is encouraging residents to make use of available eye care services and get their eyes checked regularly.
