VAAL – The 23rd edition of the Vaal River Carnival was launched successfully, with organisers highlighting plans to revive the event and create economic opportunities in the Vaal. Snowflake’s expansion into the region was expected to create jobs, while Emfuleni Municipality looked at ways to empower local communities. Stakeholders also called for support from police and traffic officials to ensure the success of the initiative.

The launch included a boat party, media engagement and presentations on the carnival’s sporting, cultural and skills-development programmes. Discussions focused on attracting more visitors, creating partnerships, supporting SMMEs and reaching the target of generating up to R1 billion. Concerns were raised about limited marketing and unclear plans, with organisers expected to provide a clear strategy for making the Vaal River Carnival a successful month-long celebration.
