GAUTENG – Fourteen motorists were arrested during Gauteng Transport Inspectorate (GTI) stop-and-search operations conducted between 13 and 19 July 2026 under the #RemoveSkorokoro campaign. The operations, carried out with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), targeted high-risk public transport routes across Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni. Two more people were arrested for immigration-related offences, while 38 unroadworthy minibuses were taken off the roads and 37 discontinuation notices were issued.
The GTI also found 60 minibus taxi drivers operating without valid licences and 50 vehicles without valid licence discs. More than 1,700 traffic infringement notices were issued, and Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela urged transport operators to collect their operating licences by 14 August 2026 or risk having their applications cancelled.
