GAUTENG – Wits University researcher says there is no evidence that migrants are taking jobs away from South Africans. Associate Professor Justin Visagie said survey findings and public data do not support claims often made during anti-immigration protests.
His remarks come as anti-immigration demonstrations continue across the country, with some groups calling for undocumented migrants to leave South Africa. Visagie argues that the perception that migrants are taking jobs from locals is not supported by research.
