PRETORIA – Deputy Minister in the Presidency Kenny Morolong has officially handed over upgraded studios to Poort FM, as part of government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community media through support from the Media Development and Diversity Agency. The initiative aims to improve broadcasting infrastructure, expand media diversity, and ensure that underserved communities have better access to local and relevant information.

Morolong described community radio, including Poort FM, as the “heartbeat of communities,” highlighting its role in giving residents a platform to share stories, discuss challenges, and contribute to local development. The upgraded studio is expected to enhance production quality, strengthen broadcasting capacity, and create opportunities for aspiring media practitioners, in line with government’s continued investment in community media nationwide.
