MEXICO – Bafana Bafana are determined to recover from their disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a 2-0 defeat to co-hosts Mexico in their opening group match in Mexico City. The South African team remains focused on securing positive results in their next two group games to keep their hopes of advancing alive.

SAFA national executive committee member Pooby Govindasamy expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back, drawing inspiration from their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, where they recovered from an opening defeat to Mali and went on to win bronze. Bafana Bafana’s primary goal is to reach the World Cup’s second round for the first time, and they will travel to the United States on Tuesday ahead of their next group match against the Czech Republic.
