U.S. President Donald Trump and mediator Shehbaz Sharif say an initial agreement aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East could be signed soon. Pakistan announced that both sides had agreed on a framework for a peace deal and were preparing for an electronic signing, followed by technical-level discussions next week. Trump also claimed that the deal would lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil shipments.
However, Esmaeil Baghaei cautioned that no signing was expected immediately, saying discussions were still ongoing and that uncertainty remained because of hesitation from the other side. The conflict, which began with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February, has driven up global energy prices and resulted in thousands of deaths, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, where fighting involving Hezbollah has intensified. Despite differing views on timing, officials say the parties are closer than ever to reaching a peace agreement.
