CAPE TOWN – A 15-year-old girl, Nikita Finch, was killed in a gang-related crossfire in Atlantis, Cape Town, on Sunday, just two days after celebrating her birthday. Nikita, a learner at Robinvale High School, was returning home from a youth event when rival gangs exchanged gunfire near a local shop. Two other people, including an 18-year-old, were injured in the shooting.
Her mother, Nicolette Finch, said the tragedy has devastated the family and reopened old wounds, as she also lost her firstborn son to gun violence ten years ago. Nikita has been remembered as a quiet, caring child who loved dancing and hoped to become a social worker after completing school. Police have not yet made any arrests.
