The Gauteng Transport Inspectorate (GTI), working with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), intensified road safety and traffic enforcement operations across Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane between 18 and 24 May 2026. The joint stop-and-search operations focused on removing unsafe and non-compliant vehicles from the roads.

During the operations, 48 private vehicles were impounded and 63 minibus taxis were discontinued due to serious mechanical defects, including faulty brakes, worn tyres and broken lights. Authorities also issued 138 discontinuation notices, 200 manual infringement notices and processed 334 electronic infringement notices through GTI’s e-Force devices.
