KWAZULU-NATAL- Residents of KwaMbonambi in northern KwaZulu-Natal are calling on Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane to urgently intervene at Sokhulu Clinic, alleging poor service delivery, negligence, and the mistreatment of patients. Community members say clinic staff are failing to provide proper care, prompting widespread concern over the quality of healthcare in the rural area.
The clinic, which serves more than 15 000 people each month, is the only nearby public healthcare facility, with the closest hospital about an hour away. Some residents claim they have been turned away during operating hours and forced to travel long distances or pay for private transport to seek treatment elsewhere. One resident, Ngenzeni Mbuyazi, said she was once refused assistance for her six-year-old son with asthma, allegedly because staff had closed early.
