PRETORIA- Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to challenge Parliament’s Independent Panel report following the Constitutional Court ruling on the Phala Phala matter. The court found that the rules governing Parliament’s impeachment process were unconstitutional, prompting Ramaphosa to address the nation on Monday.
During his address, Ramaphosa also confirmed that he will not resign despite growing pressure from opposition parties. COSATU spokesperson Zanele Sabela said it is important for the president to fully review the report and satisfy himself on the concerns raised, adding that the country cannot afford instability in such a critical office.
