SPAIN- Passengers and crew aboard the cruise vessel MV Hondius were evacuated after the ship anchored off Canary Islands, Spain following a hantavirus outbreak that left one person dead a month earlier. The ship arrived at the port of Granadilla de Abona in Tenerife, where Spanish health officials boarded it to carry out an epidemiological assessment. Authorities said everyone on board was asymptomatic and no immediate testing was conducted, though temperature checks and symptom screenings were carried out.
Disembarkation began in small, controlled groups on Sunday, with passengers and crew wearing masks and protective gear. They were only allowed to take essential belongings such as phones and identification documents. Officials said travellers would continue to return to their home countries through Monday, while global health authorities monitor for any potential signs of infection.
