JOHANNESBURG- The MK Party (MKP) and the African Transformation Movement (ATM) have filed motions of no confidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa following the Constitutional Court ruling on the Phala Phala matter. The court found that Parliament acted unlawfully when it voted against adopting a report that said Ramaphosa had a case to answer regarding the 2020 Phala Phala robbery.

The December 2022 parliamentary vote was declared invalid and unconstitutional. In a statement, the MKP led by former president Jacob Zuma said Ramaphosa’s actions had damaged public trust in the presidency and requested that the motion be debated and voted on by secret ballot in Parliament no later than 13 May 2026.
