EMFULENI- The Democratic Alliance (DA) has raised concerns over a R24 million toilet construction project in Emfuleni, following an oversight inspection of 30 toilet structures built in 2024 by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements in partnership with the Emfuleni Local Municipality. DA Emfuleni Mayoral Candidate Kingsol Chabalala said the visit revealed severe deterioration and poor conditions at many of the facilities, questioning the quality of workmanship and overall value for money.

The DA alleges that each structure cost about R815 000, bringing the total expenditure to over R24 million, despite the toilets already showing signs of disrepair. Chabalala has suggested possible misappropriation of funds and accused the ANC-led municipality of corruption and poor service delivery, saying residents continue to suffer while public money is allegedly being misused. The party says it will report the matter to law enforcement for further investigation.
