PRETORIA- A former member of the SAPS Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), retired Lieutenant-Colonel Jakobus Prinsloo, is expected to take the stand at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. He will give evidence about the alleged theft of drugs from the Hawks’ premises in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal, where a major cocaine consignment went missing.

The Commission is investigating the disappearance of 541 kilograms of cocaine from a Hawks strong room in November 2021, valued at about R200 million. Earlier testimony revealed that there were seven break-ins at the facility before the theft, with concerns raised that the premises had no CCTV cameras and lacked 24-hour security. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
