VANDERBIJLPARK- The Emfuleni Local Municipality has dismissed claims that it is neglecting pollution, saying reports about worsening sewer spillages are misleading. It highlighted several projects implemented since 2018 to repair infrastructure, upgrade wastewater treatment systems, and reduce pollution in the Vaal River, noting that these efforts have already improved conditions.
The municipality also admitted that the Palm Springs landfill site is not fully compliant with regulations but said steps are being taken to fix the issues. Meanwhile, Municipal Manager April Ntuli is expected to appear in court over environmental matters, where the municipality plans to outline progress and its plans to address remaining challenges.
