GERMISTON- The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality council sitting in Germiston collapsed on Thursday after opposition parties the DA, EFF and ActionSA staged a walkout. The parties withdrew from the meeting because both Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza and Acting City Manager Tsholofelo Koopedi were not present.
The council was expected to deliberate on ongoing court matters involving suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and City Manager Kagiso Lerutla. However, proceedings could not continue following the walkout, effectively bringing the meeting to an end.
