GAUTENG – The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) spokesperson, Steve Mabona, has announced his departure from the department, marking the end of a professional journey that began in 2017.

Mabona shared the news through a farewell message titled “Fare Thee Well, Education,” expressing gratitude for the years he spent serving in the provincial education sector and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.

During his tenure, Mabona served as the public face of the department, regularly communicating updates, policy developments, and education-related matters to the media and the public. He said the role deepened his understanding of public service and strengthened his commitment to transparent and responsive communication.

He extended appreciation to colleagues within the department, including leadership, district directors, and operational teams, acknowledging their support and collaboration over the years.

Mabona also paid tribute to school principals and educators, praising their dedication to delivering quality education under challenging conditions. He further thanked members of the media for their scrutiny and partnership in ensuring accountability, as well as parents and communities for their trust in the department’s communication.
