JOHANNESBURG- Airlines Association of Southern Africa is urging authorities to be transparent about jet fuel stock levels beyond May, as rising global fuel prices and the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz continue to pressure the aviation industry. The association says airlines need clear information on fuel availability and allocation to prevent uncertainty that could disrupt flight schedules.
Jet fuel prices have surged sharply from about R8.50 to R30 per litre. However, Airports Company South Africa has reassured that local supplies remain adequate for now, with OR Tambo International Airport holding about five to six days of fuel, Cape Town International around four days, and King Shaka International Airport up to 15 days of reserves.
