Health authorities in Gauteng have expressed concern over a rise in malaria infections, reporting a total of 666 cases and 7 deaths between January and December 2025. The situation has raised alarm as the disease continues to pose a public health risk in affected areas of the province.
The first quarter of the year has shown an even sharper increase, with 414 cases and 11 deaths already recorded. The Gauteng Department of Health is calling on residents to take preventive steps such as avoiding mosquito bites, getting tested early, and seeking prompt medical treatment when symptoms develop.
