The Emfuleni Local Municipality has opened a criminal case against several employees and service providers linked to a R16 million irregular expenditure in its fleet department. Municipal manager April Ntuli reported the matter to the Vanderbijlpark SAPS, citing serious concerns over mismanagement involving vehicle assets, procurement processes, maintenance, and insurance.
In addition to the criminal case, the municipality has initiated internal disciplinary proceedings against those implicated and plans to blacklist the companies and their directors. The matter has also been referred to the National Prosecuting Authority, with officials emphasizing their commitment to accountability, transparency, and rooting out corruption while calling on the community to support these efforts.
