KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma says the department will intensify efforts to combat corruption in the issuing of driver’s licences, targeting criminal syndicates believed to be operating within the system. He says the province is working on strategies to clean up the licensing process and ensure that only qualified and fit drivers are legally allowed on the road.
Duma also revealed that the department is considering an amnesty initiative that would allow individuals who obtained licences fraudulently to voluntarily come forward. He added that past cases of wrongdoing have led to the closure of some licensing stations, and the goal now is to restore integrity, accountability, and proper standards in the driver licensing system.
