The slain Emfuleni municipal worker, Martha Mani, had reportedly told her family that she feared for her life before she was shot dead near a police station in Vanderbijlpark last month. Mani worked in the municipality’s finance department.

According to her family, she had raised concerns about alleged corruption linked to tenders and fake cheque payments at the municipality. She had opened cases of corruption and intimidation, which were reportedly referred to the Hawks, and her relatives believe the incidents may be connected to her death.
