At least 200 people are feared dead after Nigerian military airstrikes reportedly hit a village market in Yobe state while targeting militants in the northeast on Saturday night. Residents and a local councillor said the attack caused heavy civilian casualties.

The Nigerian Air Force said it had carried out strikes against Boko Haram fighters in the Borno area but did not confirm hitting a market. The incident happened near the Yobe-Borno border, a region long affected by insurgency that has killed thousands and displaced millions. Injured victims are being treated in hospitals across both states.
