Johannesburg — The Southern Hemisphere’s flu season has begun earlier than usual, with cases appearing in autumn rather than the typical winter months of May or June.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) is urging people, especially those with underlying health conditions, to get vaccinated. Professor Cheryl Cohen, head of NICD’s Respiratory Diseases and Meningitis Centre, noted that early flu seasons have occurred before, including last year.
