Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi has reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing the legacy of apartheid during the launch of the TRC Housing Assistance Reparations programme in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal. She highlighted South Africa’s ongoing efforts to restore dignity and justice to victims through measures such as financial compensation, education support, healthcare access, and the reopening of apartheid-era inquests.

Kubayi announced that the new housing programme will provide once-off grants of up to R183 257 or newly built homes for qualifying beneficiaries. In Ndwedwe, 220 beneficiaries have already received over R40 million, with a total of R87 million allocated for 476 victims, reinforcing the state’s commitment to meaningful reparations and healing.
