A 16-year-old boy from Lehaong has tragically drowned at the Sharpeville Swimming Pool in the Emfuleni Local Municipality. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, 4 April 2026, while the teenager was attempting a flip into the deep end of the pool. Despite the presence of lifeguards and adherence to safety protocols, the situation quickly turned fatal.
Lifeguards responded immediately and emergency services were called to the scene. Paramedics arrived at approximately 15:15 and attempted to resuscitate the boy, but their efforts were unsuccessful. He was declared dead at 16:30. The South African Police Service was also present, and a case has been opened for investigation. The identity of the boy is not yet released.
